Grace Upon Grace: The Wesleyan Way of Faith
Grace Comes First
September 6, 2026 worship Service
15th Sunday after Pentecost
Pastor, Wayne P. Cook
John 1:9-13
Psalm 139:1-18
Ephesians 2:1-10
Big idea: We do not begin our journey toward God. God begins it with us.
Wesley’s great insight was that God’s grace is already at work in every person’s life before conversion. Prevenient grace awakens, draws, convicts, and enables us to respond.
Three movements:
God is already seeking us.
Grace awakens us to our need for God.
Grace gives us the freedom to respond.
Wesleyan emphasis: Grace is not God’s reward for finding Him; grace is what makes finding Him possible.
